By creating an account or using Eagle Compass, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you are under 18, your parent or guardian must review and agree to these terms on your behalf.

2. Description of Service

Eagle Compass is a free scouting progress tracker designed for Boy Scouts of America (BSA) scouts. The Service helps scouts track rank advancement, merit badges, service hours, camping nights, and leadership positions. It also provides AI-powered recommendations to help scouts plan their path to Eagle Scout.

3. User Accounts

• You must provide accurate and complete information when creating your account.
• Each scout should have only one account.
• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activities that occur under it.
• You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.

4. Age Requirements

Eagle Compass is intended for scouts aged 12 and older. Users under 13 must have verifiable parental consent in accordance with COPPA. Users between 13 and 15 must have a parent or guardian who has reviewed and agreed to these terms. Users 16 and older may use the Service independently.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree to use Eagle Compass responsibly. You must not:

• Enter false or misleading scouting progress data
• Attempt to access other users' accounts or data
• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
• Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to access the Service without permission
• Use the Service in any way that disrespects the scouting community or its values

6. AI Features

Eagle Compass uses artificial intelligence (powered by Anthropic Claude) to provide personalized recommendations and guidance. Please understand that:

• AI recommendations are informational guidance only, not guarantees of advancement or achievement.
• All rank requirements and merit badge completions must be verified through official BSA channels and your Scoutmaster.
• AI-generated content may occasionally contain errors or outdated information.
• Eagle Compass is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to the Boy Scouts of America.

7. BSA Content

Eagle Compass references rank requirements, merit badge information, and other BSA materials for educational and tracking purposes. This content is sourced from publicly available official BSA materials.

• Eagle Compass is an independent tool and is not endorsed by or affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America.
• BSA rank names, merit badge names, and related terminology are trademarks of the Boy Scouts of America.
• Always refer to official BSA resources and your Scoutmaster for authoritative requirement information.

8. Intellectual Property

The Eagle Compass application, including its design, code, features, and original content, is owned by Eagle Compass and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. BSA trademarks, rank names, and merit badge names are the property of the Boy Scouts of America.

You retain ownership of the scouting progress data you enter into the Service.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

Eagle Compass is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Eagle Compass and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, or profits, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising from the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service (which is $0 for the free tier).

11. Notification Services

Eagle Compass may send notifications via email and SMS to keep you informed about your progress and important updates.

• You can opt out of notifications at any time from your Settings page.
• Standard messaging and data rates may apply for SMS notifications.
• We are not responsible for charges from your mobile carrier related to SMS messages.

12. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at our discretion if you violate these Terms of Use or engage in conduct that we determine is harmful to other users or the Service. You may also delete your account at any time from your Settings page or by contacting us.

13. Governing Law

These Terms of Use shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these terms or the Service shall be resolved in the courts of California.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via email or a prominent notice within the app. Your continued use of Eagle Compass after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

15. Trademark Notice & Disclaimer

Eagle Compass is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) or any of its councils, districts, or units. This is an independent, unofficial tool created to help individual scouts track their personal advancement.

"Eagle Scout," "Scouts BSA," "Boy Scouts of America," merit badge names, rank names (Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, Eagle), and rank insignia/patch images are registered trademarks and intellectual property of the Boy Scouts of America. Their use on this platform is for informational and educational purposes only, to help scouts reference official requirements during their advancement journey.
