Eagle Compass ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website and application at eaglecompass.app. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our users, especially scouts aged 12–18 and their families. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address
- Date of birth (to verify age and COPPA compliance)
Parent/Guardian Contact Information
For scouts under 16, we collect parent or guardian information including:
- Parent/guardian name
- Parent/guardian email address
- Parent/guardian phone number
Scouting Progress Data
We collect data you enter about your scouting journey, including:
- Rank advancement progress
- Merit badge progress and completions
- Service hours and projects
- Camping nights and outdoor activities
- Leadership positions and experience
Usage Data
We automatically collect certain information when you use the app, such as pages visited, features used, and general interaction patterns. This data helps us improve the service.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Track your scouting progress — display your rank advancement, merit badges, service hours, and other milestones
- Provide AI-powered recommendations — suggest next steps, merit badges, and strategies personalized to your progress
- Send notifications — deliver progress updates, reminders, and motivational messages via email and SMS
- Improve the service — analyze usage patterns to enhance features, fix issues, and build a better experience
- Ensure safety and compliance — verify age requirements and maintain parental consent where required
3. Children's Privacy
Eagle Compass is designed for scouts aged 12–18. We take children's privacy seriously and comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
- We collect date of birth during signup to verify age.
- Users under 13 must have verifiable parental consent before using the service.
- Parents or guardians can review, modify, or request deletion of their child's data at any time by contacting us.
- We do not knowingly collect more information from children than is necessary to provide the service.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with the following third-party service providers, strictly to operate the app:
- Supabase — cloud database and authentication. Your account data and scouting progress are stored securely on Supabase infrastructure.
- Anthropic (Claude AI) — powers our AI recommendation features. Scouting progress data may be sent to generate personalized advice. No personally identifiable information (such as name or email) is sent to Anthropic.
- Resend — email delivery service used to send magic link logins, progress notifications, and updates.
- Twilio — SMS delivery service used to send text-based notifications and reminders.
Each provider is bound by their own privacy policies and data protection obligations. We do not share your data with advertisers or any other third parties.
5. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including:
- Encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest
- Row Level Security (RLS) policies in Supabase to ensure users can only access their own data
- Secure authentication via magic link email (no passwords stored)
- Regular review of security practices
While we strive to protect your data, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If you become aware of a security issue, please contact us immediately.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data — view all information we have about you through your account settings
- Delete your data — request full deletion of your account and all associated data
- Export your data — request a copy of your scouting progress data
- Opt out of notifications — manage or disable email and SMS notifications from your settings page

7. Notifications
Eagle Compass may send notifications via email (powered by Resend) and SMS (powered by Twilio). These notifications include progress updates, reminders, and motivational messages.
- You can opt out of notifications at any time from your Settings page.
- Parents and guardians can manage notification preferences for scouts under their care.
- Standard messaging and data rates may apply for SMS notifications.
8. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account remains active. If you request account deletion, we will remove all personal information and scouting progress data within 30 days. Some anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for analytics purposes.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via email or a prominent notice within the app. Your continued use of Eagle Compass after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
